Pole Fitness!

Just a few months ago, I noticed a Groupon for Pole Fitness classes at a local fitness studio. A friend and I (half jokingly) bought the Groupon. A few weeks later we decided to actually try it out. Let me tell you- after the first time, I was hooked! For those of you who haven’t tried it before, trust me.. it’s worth a shot! It’s not about being overtly sexy or marching around in high heels. It is truly a fitness class.

I’ll start by saying I have never touched a pole before and was absolutely horrible my first time. For almost a week following, I was SO sore. I was sore in places I didn’t even know I had muscles. Pole fitness is truly a work out- and a hard one at that! It requires total body strength. After our first class, my friend awoke the next morning with rough hands and quite a few bruises… and, although she said she enjoyed it, always seems to have an excuse on Thursday’s as to why she can’t make it! I, on the other hand, really look forward to my Thursday night pole class! It has become my favorite day of the week by far! Each week, I have seen noticeable improvement and, believe it or not, I actually think I am getting quite good! If you stick with it a few weeks, you will find your strength increase along with your confidence. And we always have a few laughs and lots of fun. I credit much of this to my amazing and inspiring instructor, Miss Janel, of Uptown Fitness Studio. If you live in Michigan, you need to check her out!

Uptown Fitness calls it “the MOST popular craze around” where you can “learn sexy burlesque moves while learning how to twirl and spin on the poles by our fabulous dance instructor”. They encourage you to “have a GREAT time with all your friends while working those core muscles and upper body strength you didn’t even know you had!”. Friends or not, pole fitness is a challenging workout that leaves you having so much fun you won’t even realize how hard you worked until the next day!

Check out some fitness studios in your area and find where they offer pole fitness near you! It is a growing trend and a nice change once a week from your regular work out routine! Definitely can’t go wrong… it is a must try! If you live in Michigan, you must check out Uptown Fitness Studio (http://www.uptownbodyfitness.com)in Northville. Great classes, cool studio, convenient location and amazing instructors. Can’t be beat!
